How did your baby first communicate that he wanted to nurse, without crying?

Just curious...

I got my first tug at my shirt tonight; he was clearly trying to get at what was underneath. It was the first time my baby communicated that he wanted to nurse, without pitching a fuss.

It was rather sweet.

Your experiences?

  1. I too received the first baby boobies-bust -in attempts from my little guy a few days ago.  He also has taken to giving me the most pathetic look while in Daddy's arms and I am in the kitchen.  He will stand there, thumb in mouth, telepathically imploring me to save him from certain starvation.  He also has helped himself a couple of times in the night lately.  Nothing like waking up to a slobbery face desperately seeking nipple, but finding nothing but my neck and and the side of my boob.  Talk about improper latch.  Kids these days!

  2. My son just tries to suck at everything & when i hold him he looks for my b*****s. My dad keeps his cigarretes in his chest pocket & yesterday when he was holding my son he was sucking on them, through the pocket of course, it was so funny!!

  3. my son nibbles and sucks on my neck and shoulder area if 'm holding him. The funny thing as I write this, he's doing that. I guess I should NAK :)

  4. Would make a smacking sound with his lips and pat at my chest.

Now when he wants to nurse, will pat my chest and say, "Num nums?" so sweetly, it is so cute!

  5. Mine looks at my chest then waves his hands. If I dont do it right away he will try to nurse through my shirt.

  6. mine head-butts me in the chest.

    rather like a baby goat.

  7. my daughter lifted my shirt and bit my bra until i undid my bra for her.

  8. early on he would suck on his fists and when i was holding him he would turn towards my b*****s and rough his face up on them. he still does this lol

  9. My 11 month old says "nun nun" and tries to pull up my shirt, or she'll just lay down in the position to nurse.

  10. My baby just does this little humming noise and then starts shoving his fingers in his mouth and then I know he is hungry if I leave him alone while he is doing that then he throws a fit because I am not feeding him.

  11. By signing "milk". She only started doing it about a month ago but it's the sweetest thing in the world! She'll even remind me as we're nursing... "I'm having milk, mum! Yeah, this is milk! Look at me, smarty pants, I'm having milk!"

  12. She never did cry to be fed before she learned to communicate - she would root (still does occasionally now at almost 11 months).

Patting my chest came after rooting, and then full on grabbing my top and pulling - but now she is learning words she has taken to saying "boo beesh" (boobies) - so she can tell me when she wants to be fed - although I still mainly get the hand creeping down my shirt and a "for me please?" look.

  13. My daughter will cuddle up to me and rub her face on my chest when she wants to nurse.  Sometimes she will actually try to latch on through my shirt.  Usually I can just tell though without her really asking.
