How did your cats react when introducing them for the first time?

i brought home a new ragdoll kitten of 4 months yesterday. he is so laid back and a real purr box. the only problem is my 11 month old cat who has lived with us on her own for 9 months.

my breeder told me to just put them straight in together even though i had read to take it slow.

i decided to take my own advice but let them see each other through a glass door after my new kitten had settled in for the night.

my resident cat who is a moggy with a temper dived at the glass when she saw him, and let out a loud and deep meow at him, she was scratching at the glass. her tail was puffed up and her heckles were stood up along her spine. my raggy just ran away and hid..... the same happened again today after they had got used to each others scents and seemed relaxed in separate rooms.....

did anyone else have cats that reacted this aggressively?

i wouldn't mind if she was just hissing and spitting, its the fact she dived at him through the glass that bothers me, and the fact that my ragdoll is so laid back he could get hurt!!!

please tell me your stories so i can see if there is hope of these 2 being okay with each other ever!

  1. wow...well my defenetly isn't like that, mine goes up to the person and asks to be picked up!!

  2. Well my calico cat hated the manx kitten when we first got them. We actually weren't planning on getting another cat but a stray (SUPER SWEET) came and had her kittens at our house so we took them in.

Well my calico did NOT like it when the cats invaded her territory, see cats are very territorial. She became irritable and mean for awhile but then all the cats left except for the one kitten that we kept. She hated the kitten for awhile but then got used to her presence and now they get along quite well and tolerate each other.

Good luck with your new kitty and I sure hope that your cat will accept her!

PS good for you for introducing them slowly, that's how you're supposed to do it!

  3. WHAT IF I TOOK YOU FROM YOUR HOME TO ANOTHER HOME AND NEW PEOPLE IMMEDIATELY ???

ID BE A NERVOUS WRECK !!!

I PUT THE KITTENS OR NEW CAT IN THE BATHROOM. I PUT A KITTY PAN, WET AND DRY FOOD AND WATER.

THE NEW ONE STAYS THERE FOR 24 HOURS.

MEANWHILE I CAN ENTER AND INTRODUCE MYSELF WITH PETS AND TALKING TO THEM

THEN I JUST.....OPEN THE DOOR AND LET THEM OUT TO EXPLORE.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO PUT THEM BACK IN THE BATHROOM AT NIGHTS, JUST TO LET THEM ADJUST AND DECOMPRESS AFTER THE DAY.

    GOOD LUCK !!!

  4. at first they just stared at eachother. then smelled eachother. and after a while my cat tom tried to chase him off because this was his territory. but ounce whiskers licked his head. (showed him respect). Tom was fine with him after that.

  5. well my cat annie started smacking my new cat ziggy on the head. she was mad because she wanted to clean him and he did not want her to clean him. Then I took in a ten year old stray last month and my new cat ziggy keeps chasing my newest cat sophie. He is a ragdoll also and acts like an annoying pestering kid with her. She also growls and smacks him around.

  6. i have a few cats myself.

th dominant cat is always VERY aggressive when i come home with a new cat. (and that happens here more than once and a while. what can i say i have a weakness for rescuing animals) anyways, after a while the dominant will get used to her, he/shes just protecting her territory. since all cats have different personalities  they will all react different. take it slow, for example when i came home with the 3rd the 2nd was cautios and the dominant was agressive but now the 2nd and the 3rd play all the time and the dominant is still a little cautious. the dominant to the day still sits in the other food dish while ahe eats from the other then eats the rest. so just give it time and when the cat gets older if she needs to she will defend herself. good luck and congrats
