How did your child act when teething? ?

My daughter already got a tooth but it was so young she didn't really whine or anything too much, but now she is 6 months and all she has done for over a week is whine and cry and be grumpy, it's driving me crazy. I give her tylenol and have used baby orajel. I'm just wondering if most babies act like this, or maybe if I should bring her to the doctors and get checked for like an ear infection or something different than teething. I don't want to drug her up all day so I only give her tylenol once in the morning and once at night, she uses teethers and stuff, but nothing seems to really make her better. The tylenol works but as I said I don't want to give it to her 5 times a day, So if you could just tell me what you did, anything that worked and how many times a day you gave tylenol and for how long that would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

  1. my baby is fussy 1-3 days before she cuts a tooth. she purses her lips and rubs her tongue along her gum line. you can tell it's sore and hurting her. I rub a little pure vanilla extract on her gum line, which my doctor said was fine to use. sounds strange, but it works really well. it has a little alcohol on it, but i rub such a tiny amount that it's fine. the vanilla has numbing qualities and it immediately helps take away the pain.  i've used tylenol a couple times before, but it didn't seem to help much.

  2. Fussy fussy fussy! Pulled on her ears, low grade fever, lots of drooling, vomiting and the best part of it all ..... the runs! OMG good times. She was like this all weekend before I even noticed why. Poor babies ...I gave her Tylenol too and just followed whatever the recommendation was on the bottle.

    Good luck and be patient.

  3. started to chew on stuff, because it iched..or hurt or something

and yeah they get grumpy and cry because the're uncomfortable

  4. My son was the fussiest thing ever. When he was getting his first teeth it was bad, but he just recently got his molars (14 MO) and whoa!!!! I have never seen a baby in so much distress.

Cried and cried and cried. Did not want to eat at all, wanted his *baba* even though he has been on sippy cups for the longest. Shook his head at me for everything I did and could NOT sleep through the night during this time.

I gave him Orajel and Benadryl and he was out for the night. It makes them feel better to sleep too, so don't feel bad about giving them medication- just don't overdo it.

  5. Had to answer this cause the same thing happened to me...I thought

something was wrong and took him to the doctor b/c I thought maybe he had an ear infection. Turned out nothig was wrong...but always trust your instincts..every situation is different. Good luck

  6. I personally don't have kids, but I have a lot of younger siblings and cousins, and I baby-sit a lot.  Almost every kid that I've been around when teething has been really grumpy, so that's perfectly normal.  As for the ear infection, if she's tugging at her ear and/or she has that sick look in her eyes I would take her to the doctor.

  7. I didn't even know that Tyler was teething until his tooth popped through at 6 months old. He never made a peep! Now with Riley, he was whiny for weeks...not miserable but just whiney. On July 31st his first tooth popped through and within 2 weeks of that date he's had 4 more pop for a total of 5 teeth (4 top & 1 bottom). All I gave him was some baby oragel and stuff to chew on (teethers, biter biscuits & he was always chewing on the bottle nipples when he was done drinking).

It does sound like your little one might be teething. She's at the right age. I would continue to do what you're doing and maybe try to occupy her more so she isn't focused on the pain.
