Question:

How did your child act when you brought home a new baby?

My daughter is the princess in our family. She is the only grandchild on my husband and my side. SO naturally she has been a little spoiled the last 4 years, and she loves attention. She is a very sweet girl, good for the most part but she is definitely a mommas girl-she clings to me ALL the time.

We are going to be bringing home a new baby soon, and I wondered what your experiences were like?

  1. My parents tell me that when they brought my sister home from the hospital I cried and told them to take her back.  I didn't want my daddy holding a different baby than me.  :)

  2. well when we brought my daughter home my boys were older (8 and 10 y/o) so they were more fascinated than upset. the are great w/her.

when i brought my youngest son home  my older boys were  turning 10 and 12 y/o and again they really thought it was cool!

my daughter was 19 months old and thought her little brother was a new baby doll! LOL she's a very girly girl. she LOVES to help me w/him. she hugs him and loves on him, and sometimes i hear her talking to him like i do when he's upset "It's otay baby, awww baby, it's otay" LOL i love it!

just make sure you give her one on one time after the baby gets here. make a special day all about her!

  3. My little girl was only 2 when we brought baby brother home.  From the day I found out that I was pregnant we started talking to her about the baby (even though I don't think that she really understood what was going on).  We never really refered to him as Peyton, but as brother or "your baby" to her.  He is 7 months old now and just a few months ago she started calling him Peyton but still calls him brother most of the time.  She was great with him... never really fought for attention or anything.  She still had special outings with her fav. aunt so things didnt change to much.  Her aunt just had a baby last month and now she is starting to act a little like a baby b/c that is the only way she can get attention.  But she was never mean or anything to either of them

  4. Well my Lola has no baby siblings yet but my cousin Chloe just welcome her sister Lillian into the family. Chloe is 13 months old and calls Lily "her baby" and was very excepting (but she is young).

I loved my little sister when they brought her home and liked to feed her and hold her. (I was 2.5 almost 3).

  5. omg! when we brought home our son (2 1/2 yr age diff) it was wonderful. my older son loved his new brother. we were so happy. he was like, "this is my brother." he guarded him, loved him, protected him, idolized him. cant say that now, 20 and 17 yrs later but its was beautiful.

    good luck and best wishes.

  6. I would recommend showing her how to hold a 'real' baby by practicing with a doll so when you come home with her baby sibling she can hold him/her and feel like she's part of it. Instead of everyone gathering around your new baby and making your lil girl feel left out everyone will be gathered around her too! And remember verbal positive reinforcements work great with children!

" Oh' your going to be such a great big sister!"

"Mommy and daddy couldn't do this without our special big helper!"

"The baby is so lucky to have you as the Big sister"

    Best of luck and congrats!

  7. I would recommend getting your daughter involved with the baby as soon as possible. Let her "help" with baby's bath and feeding. And (even though you may be exhausted) make sure you and husband both spend plenty of time with her.

  8. I was 3 when my parents brought my little brother home and my life up until that sounded alot like your daughter's. Mommy was my best friend and I didnt leave her side, I was the only grandchild on either side and therefore gote everything I ever watend... From what they tell me I was good with it for a couple days and as soon as I realized he was staying that all changed. I told them they didnt love me anymore and that I wanted him to go back where he came from.
