How different can the colors be at David's Bridal?

I have 1 bridesmaid's dress I was going to give one of my bridesmaids since she doesn't have much money (for my wedding) and the lady at David's bridal said they would not be from the same color lot so they may not match...how different could they really be? I'm doing the Apple red so I thought they would all be the same...Could you tell in pictures and in person?

Thanks.

  1. To be honest, they could be totally different. The other dress will be coming from a different dye lot and although they say its the same color, it will be off...

  2. I really don't think they will be that different. I doubt it will be enough to notice in a picture. Maybe in person but people aren't going to notice.

  3. In bright light you might be able to tell the difference. Without any washing or wearing different dye lots normally don't show. At most it would be to the point where holding the two dresses together (i.e. looking at the fabric right next to each other) would show that the colours were different. It's not likely to be different enough that you could notice other than that. If you're really worried, you can always have them stand a metre or so apart, and it will be very likely (but not guaranteed) to not show in the least.

  4. Davids lies- they never come from the same lot because there stuff is from china and they can't control it.  Anything from overseas- they can't control the dyes that closely and those dresses are mass produced and stored in Texas- they are pulled from there.  They do not make them as they pretend.

    The color will be FINE!

She just wants the extra sale so she gets more commission.

  5. I thought David's bridal was the place to go to ensure bridesmaid dresses matched?  I think that sales lady is trying to get you to buy an extra dress.

David's Bridal advertises on their website that they guarantee their dresses will match even if your bridesmaid buy them at different stores anywhere in the USA.  I don't think you should worry that much about the colours be too different.  And I also think you should bring up what the website says about the colours to that deceitful sales person.

  6. Basically when you are creating a colored fabric you use X amount of dye.  Let's say after they have used all that fabric they have to create some more that is "apple" colored and therefore the X amount of dye they use on the next batch could be slightly less or more.

So she is right, there could be slight variations.

That being said.... my guess would be that unless you bought yours YEARS ago... it should be fine!

Another way to solve this would be letting your BM's pick whatever style they want... different fabrics hold the color differently.... (for instance satin, taffeta, and chiffon will all have the same basic color but could be a little off if you look at them up close).

    Hope this helps!

  7. yes, they have a color lot for material so there will me a difference. maybe not enough to bother you but you know that saying the picture's don't lie .

    good luck

  8. Assuming the dress you are passing on to your bridesmaid was stored in a closet and not left out to fade, I think any color differences will be negligible

  9. I was in a wedding as a brides maid in march, and we wore apple red dresses!  They are very popular and it's a really pretty color!  There is a color that looks like it, and I think it will be okay..... (I tried on the other red)  Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. it may be the same or very different.  Take the dress into a davids and tell then you wanted to see what they have to match soy ou can see fi there is a difference.

  11. I don't think that they will be different. I was just in a wedding where the color was apple and we all had different dresses and from different David's. you could not tell the difference in color

  12. All of my bridesmaids lived in different parts of california and all of there dresses were purchased and ordered from different davids bridals at different times.  They were apple red as well and there was no difference.  I have pictures but it will not let me post the darn link!

I will try again later or I can possibly email them to you if you like!

    good luck hun!

  13. I agree with Muffin that it sounds as if the saleslady is trying to get you to purchase an extra dress.  I have 3 bridesmaids who are all currently located in different areas of the country.  I was originally going to have them send in their measurements so that we could purchase the dresses from the same dye lot (because my mother and sister pointed out that there might be a difference), but the folks at David's Bridal GUARANTEE that there shouldn't be a noticeable difference.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, although if you think the dress may have faded (how old is this dress?), bring it in to the store and hold it up against one of the samples they have.  It would be the same, essentially, as one of your bridesmaids buying off the rack, right?  =)  Kudos to you for saving your bridesmaid money!

    Congratulations, and Happy Planning!

  14. They really shouldn't be that much of a difference. I'd go with your idea, that is very nice of you to do this for your friend.
