I'm 15 and living in Scotland, after the Summer I'm going to be moving from a large state school to a small (there's 16 people in my year) Private school. I've never really had any experience of private education and don't know anyone there. What kind of differences can I expect? Thanks. x

  1. A different smaller school ^^

  2. a survey done about 2 yrs ago showed their was no academic advantage in paying to send your children to a private school ,indeed some state schools achieved higher standards than some very expensive, exclusive schools!.

  3. I went to a state junior school and then went onto a private secondary school so I can give you some advice.

I found that at a private school, there is alot more support, whether it be through teaching or access to facilities, acedemically. There are great opportunities in terms of clubs and sports and what-not but the main focus is on the acedemic side.

There are some state schools which year after year out perform private schools but they are generally grammer schools. These are like private schools, ie. you have an acedemic test to pass in order to gain entrance but don't have any fees. The competition for these schools is very high so they can choose from a large pool of applicants.

Going to a very small school, you'll find that it's quite a close-knit community. This is great because it means you'll be close with your teachers and get to know your classmates well. Also, you'll get a larger proportion of your teachers' time than if you went to a large school.

Something else I noticed when at secondary school was that if you did well in class, you wouldn't be picked on but instead admired. This can act as a great incentive to work harder with less distraction.

I enjoyed my time at both junior and secondary school and I'm sure you'll be fine. Just make sure to take advantage of the opportunities that you're offered because before you know it you'll be off to university.

Hope that helps and good luck!

  4. Well...it is different because it is smaller and quieter and a good thing is that you can make a new start, make cool new friends and do your best.sorry i just had to say that!
