  1. Very different! I visited both cities last year in May '06. I was in Vienna first - it's the largest city in Austria and also its capital city. There is just so much to do and see here! The nightlife in the downtown area is also busy. It's very cosmopolitan. It has many parks, the Vienna Woods, the Donau (Danube) river and its many canals. It has a wonderful public transit system. There are lots of museums, art galleries, restaurants, pubs, palaces, churches, etc to visit. It would take weeks to do them all.

Salzburg on the other hand, is a beautiful small city situated in the alps. Pretty much everything is within walking distance. The Hohensalzburg fortress towers over the pretty baroque city while the river Salz runs through it. The nightlife here is nothing compared to Vienna's. And after 3 days, I pretty much saw most of the churches, museums, the fortress, shops, and galleries. And, it rains here a lot more than Vienna, being situated in the mountains.

What it all boils down to - are you looking to live in a large busy cosmopolitan city, or for a quieter small pretty city in the alps?

  2. I lived in Vienna for about 6 months and I absolutely loved it there! :o)  There was always something to do, never a dull moment... Prices were decent, and people were friendly...

I only spent about a week or two in Salzburgh but I got bored pretty quickly.  There just wasn't as many things to do, and everything seemed to be a bit more pricey than in Vienna.  I would say the people there were just as nice, But if your looking for a hopin night life, Vienna would be the best City for ya...

  3. Salzburg is way snobbier, wealthy, and very expensive place to live. vienna has more to offer!
