Question:

How different is baby sign language than ASL?

I have started to teach my baby sign language from this site:

http://www.signwithme.com/001_infant_signing.asp

There are examples of the signs on this website and an explaination that will explain why we are doing it.

I was wondering if it is ASL or at least similar. I have been told recently that it is a little bit different. My objective is to use this as communication between me and my child, she is not deaf, but it might be nice to continue learning more so we can ultimately be fluent in ASL.

  1. Check it out by yourself.

Here is a fair website that has some basic vocab and idioms:

    http://www.aslpro.com/cgi-bin/aslpro/asl...

Anyway, if you can I recommend to take an ASL course at some community college or join a deaf club for gaining the grammar and non manuals that you are going to need for developing good communication skills.
