How different is “Destiny” from “Luck”? How they are related to “Effort”?

Destiny is what you make of your life.

Luck is the extra help you get on the way

Effort is amount of energy you use to realize your Destiny. Luck is proportional to the amount of Effort you choose to use.

Luck is not present if you don't make the effort to buy a lottery ticket, which in turn could materialize your destiny.

Destiny is a predetermination of a person's course of events.  Luck is usually a solitary fortunate incident.  Luck is nice but you can't count on it.  Destiny may or may not exist.  If it does it's certainly impacted by effort.  On one hand effort can make all the difference, but if you don't have occasional luck it can all be for naught.  But sometimes if you exert enough effort luck isn't needed.  Some people in impoverished countries expend a great deal of effort without much result though.

If good fortune befalls a person who believes in the inevitability of fate, they will say it is their destiny, it was meant to happen. The fatalist believes that at some point their effort worked in harmony with their destiny.

If good fortune befalls a person who believes that life is a series of random and accidental occurances, they will say it is luck and it could just have easily happened to the next person as it did to them. They don't believe that effort has anything to do getting something either fortuitous or ill fated.

I was only thinking the same thing a moment ago.  But couldn't put it into words.  Good work.

Now the question can be answered for both of us.  It's a great question.  For instance, how is it that a person I know only has to think of something she desires and a week later has it.  Me,  I am like that Karen Carpenter song "my smallest of dreams wont come true".  And my friend puts in absolutely no effort.  I am always trying.

they are both one in the same. You make your own luck and you make your own destiny. Its up to you and how hard you work at doing something. Thats much like the word" accident"

There is no such thing as an accident. There is always a reason for something to happen.

Destiny is essentially a life map. It can be altered any time, directly related to your Effort. Luck is also related to Effort, but it is more like a blessing, meaning that luck can be given to you as a gift if some one or some being thinks you deserve it. There are ways to increase your luck, beginning with awareness and development of your intuition, will help you sense when something is being presented to you as a lucky moment or a good luck token.

Destiny is  believed to happen as  a matter of fate. It is something the person feels they are drawn to by a stronger power than their own.

Luck is a matter of good fortune that happens by chance, when it is unlikely that an event of this nature will occur.

Effort is power or motion that is given out consciously.

It would seem that no effort is necessarily involved in the event of luck or destiny.

I think the primary difference between luck and destiny is that luck is defined as a force, while destiny is defined as a predetermined course of events. Effort can be defined as a conscious exertion of power, but also as an effective force.

This leads me to conclude that we can use effort to “create our own luck”. I resist the idea of destiny because I don’t believe everything is predetermined. The universe is too chaotic for that.
