  1. I dont think the child would be to different because usually kids sometimes might have special needs and disablities and talking could be one of them. I would discuss this matter with a doctor because usually kids should be talking way before the age of 7 but one of my very good friends wasnt talking to anybody until around the age of 7 and now she cant stop talking..This usually means the child will be very shy and or might have insecurity about themselves..

    Hope this helps!!

  2. is the kid autistic?

  3. Well, you don't tell us WHY the child's not talking.  It could apraxia, aphasia, autism, deafness or hearing impairment, selective mutism, mental retardation, or a million other things.  Have you tried signing with them to see how much they actually know?

I posted another answer similar to this one, and this is what I wrote:

You could try to teach him/her American Sign Language (ASL). People develop motor control before they can talk. Signing Time is a great series for this. Rachel Coleman, her deaf daughter Leah, and Leah's hearing cousin Alex help children develop ASL vocabulary in a fun way. They also have a sister series called Baby Signing Time, which is structured differently. It is more engaging for young children (like 0-3). All of these will help your child in language and may boost their IQ (Intelligence Quotient) scores.

Sorry that's it's long, I just wanted to help! Signing Time is a GREAT series, and NO child should be denied it. Any child, no matter what their abilities can use it to learn sign language vocabulary. I hope you consider my advice and choose Signing Time for your child. You do not need to buy Signing Time to watch it if it's on PBS where you live. Otherwise, you will probably need to buy the DVDs to watch it. It will NOT delay your child's speech further (contrary to popular belief), and you will not regret it!

  4. Read about it in Helen Keller's biography.

  5. Prolly wouldn't be able to talk or learn that well. From what I understand, people learn language best a young age and if they miss that window of opportunity, it becomes extremely difficult. I would recommend looking up the story of Genie, who was locked in her basement for years.

  6. I don't think they would be different, but they wouldn't be as caught up with learning and things. But if they are fast learners than they can try to catch up with other kids their age.

  7. I think that she would not have strong verbal skills, and have difficult speaking.

I know this person in my class that bearly talks. Everytime when my teacher asks him to answer a question, his voice sounds so "sick" and its kind of hard to hear what he/she is saying.

Putting that person in community activites/groups where he/she can learn would be help a lot. It would be difficult for that person if she gets any older.

  8. Assuming the child doesn't suffer from Autism, hearing and speech impairment, or any other vocal or auditory disability, I'd say rather unique. I'm not even sure how it's possible. I suppose a child of two mute or deaf parents might not begin developing speech until a later age. this is blowing my mind a bit! on a scale of 1 - 10 I'd say 8.

  9. I think he or she would have some troubles because he or she wasn't using and exercising that part of the brain.  Also, I saw a special on discovery channel about a boy raised in the wild, he never spoke until about that age and he didn't really develop further on.  Not sure.

  10. really different, they may need a tutor, until the age of 2-3 its normal

  11. I'd say this child would have needed early intervention with speech therapists and elvauted by a special education team.  There has be some reason why there is not language.  This child needs to learn sign language or given some sort of communication device by a speech and language pathologist.

Is this child now talking at the age of 7?  He would still need speech therapy to catch up.

  12. She would likely be developmentally disabled and have learning problems.  The level of mental ability she could achieve would likely be stunted.  She would likely have interpersonal problems, as well.

A person who does not speak until age seven has something wrong with her, and missing that language experience during those formative years has a devastating effect on the developing brain.

  13. Definately VERY different. Without speaking, the person would not get to share his/ her feelings as they should, which might make them more shy or maybe even depressed when they are older.
