  1. Not difficult at all. I have taken the trip in the opposite direction and visited both Boston and New York.

You have two interstate highways to choose from. You can go to Albany and then take I-87 all the way up. That is the easiest route. Expect several minutes to an hour wait at the Lacolle border crossing, depending on when you arrive.

The alternate route is to go up I-91 through Vermont (or I-91 then I-89) and cross over. It is a much more scenic route, but expect it to take longer since you are not going straight to Montreal, but rather through the Stowe and Eastern Townships regions. I would suggest that route if you are going to Montreal in September, to see all the autumn colors.

Once in Montreal, parking can be a challenge as you have meters, signs that are all in French, and periods when parking is not permitted in certain places.

But the drive is fine, I usually just get on the highway, set the cruise, and go with the flow. It is not a long drive, but you may want to stop somewhere on the US side of the border to get lunch and fill up your gas tank. Gas prices in Montreal are high and as of last night were around $5.20 a gallon.

  2. I've done it many times.   It's around 6 hours.    I prefer the Vermont route because it's much more scenic.    It's not difficult or annoying other than you have to drive for 6 hours.

  3. Very difficult if you don't have access to a vehicle or don't know how to drive and very annoying if you're stuck in traffic for hours or at the US/Canada border crossing!

Try and avoid rush hour traffic at all costs!

I've never done it myself but I can just imagine, lol!

    Good luck to you!

P.S. $5.20 a gallon for gas?!? Are you kidding me? Ay chihuahua!!!

  4. very annoying
