  1. well it does depend on the job, public accounting would be average of 70 hours a week during tax season (Jan-April) so the M-F 9-5 is out. in private accounting you still have month end and quarter closing so that is will be more then the 9-5 also.

as for the stress level it will once again depend where you work, public accounting is know for the stress and the demands, few people stay in it for life. most will get the experience for the CPA and move on. in the private sector it will depend on the company and your role. low level people don't have the same stresses the managers do.

Also an Account Manager and an Accountant are not the same thing. Nothing against Account Managers but it is not the same.

if you are looking for something low stress and 9-5, this is not it. i don't know who told you it was.

  2. It also depends where you work. If you work at a big accounting firm, yeah it can be stressful especially during tax season. I would not bet that it's a 9-5 job in most cases. Accountants are professionals and generally professionals work hours that aren't strictly 9-5

  3. It depends on the person.

I think that it is a piece of cake but that is just me.  It can be stressful at times but what job isn't.

  4. my dad is an account manager and well i can tell you that its a 9-5 mon-friday kind of job and it can be stressful during years end when you have to do all the reports. its a job that requires constant work and you have to sit and work hour after hour the work never ends.
