Question:

How difficult is getting into Cal Poly?

I want to know how hard it would to get into Cal Poly SLO and Pomona if I plan to major in fine arts (for graphic design).

I have around a 4.0 GPA weighted, and 3.6 unweighted (I think, anyway.) I'm also planning on getting 1200 on the SAT in math and reading. Unfortunately, I don't have any extracurricular activities because I was planning to do all of those senior year; I didn't realize you had to apply so early.

Thanks if you can help.

  1. I go to Cal Poly SLO and I would say you have a very good chance at getting in for your chosen major. Fine arts at Cal Poly is not one of the heavily impacted majors. Engineering and Architecture are probably the two most difficult majors to get accepted into at Poly. I got into the math and science department at Poly with a 3.6 unweighted gpa and a decent SAT score (I think it was around 1200 to 1400). I was in a biotech club for 3 years of high school but did very few other extracurricular activities. So basing from my experience, I would say you have a lot of potential for acceptance. Make sure you include any and ALL volunteer work you can think of when you are filling out your application. Also, if you have taken any extra art classes/clubs that would be a good thing to include on you application. Sports, activities, work/jobs, etc. in school or outside of school also look good on an application. Don't leave anything out. Just make sure you give yourself credit for everything you have done during high school. Good luck.
