I'm thinking of applying to NUS and have really little experience/knowledge with Asian universities. Is competition comparable to Oxford and Cambridge?

  1. you're quite brave. asian universitites are very competitive. i'm not sure how NUS will fare beside oxford or cambridge, but one thing is for sure. if you really want to study here in singapore, be prepared to:

    1) study, study and STUDY

    2) stay up past 12 midnight almost everyday(i'm not joking)

    3) encounter selfish people who refuse to lend you their notes

    4) be so busy you practically have no time to eat.

i'm currently still in school, so these are personal experiences. singaporean students are pushed hard by primary one ( or the first year of elementary school ) . by the time they hit primary three, the 'fun' starts....so you can guess how the university will be like. but really, if you're prepared to work for it, then you'll definitely pass with flying colours. good luck and i hope you have a good time here! 2. The Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) ranks universities around the world. Oxford and Cambridge is ranked 2nd and NUS is ranked 33rd. While the THES rankings gives a good indication of how good a certain university is based on the multitude of criteria that they have, the difference between 2nd and 33rd may not be as large as it seems.

NUS is a good university and in Asia it is one of the best. If you are from an English-speaking country and want to have a tertiary education in Asia, NUS is a good choice.
