How difficult is it to get a Volkswagon trike (home made) titled? (more details inside)?

This is Texas. Back end of trike is Volkswagon, front end is from a big Bike. The thing has two seats, and drives quite well. Has horn, headlight, taillight, brakelight, front and rear blinkers, etc.

VIN number is totally clean. Had it checked by a cop.

The person who owns it never got it titled. They say they bought it strictly to paint and resell. They say that I can easily get a title for it as an assembled vehicle.

So, how difficult will it actually be to get this thing titled?

Every state is different...could be easy or not so easy.

I would handle  this one of these two ways.

Have them go with you to the MVD and do all the paperwork right there and then hand them the money.

Have them get a title if it is easy and then pay them the agreed on price plus their expense to get the title.

Something just sounds a little fishy. If the title is that easy to get why wouldn't they get it? Much easier to sell vehicles with a title....
