I feel like I'm jumping on the boat a bit late at 16, but oh well. For example, how good do you think I could get in like a month of practicing maybe an hour or two a day? A year? Just curious...

  1. it depends on what you want to do. You could play a couple of easy chords like an open g in about 3 seconds, then a d in about 2 minutes. Then mix them up with each other.

A guy did Woodstock with those two chords (the one that sung Freedom) and everyone's jaw dropped so... pretend you are him and you can already play.

  2. very easy, at least for me...

I have been playing for a a year and I can play stairway to heaven, knocking on heavens door, and many more songs with solos..

and I only played 3 times a week for about 30 minutes...  Some people learn it less than a year, and you don't even need a tutor.

Get a book and learn to read tabs; it's that easy.

  3. Nah, 16 isn't too late as long as you practice. Practicing about two hours per day as a beginner (your fingers will hurt, but that's how you get callouses) is perfect. That's what I did.

Once you bear through all the pain in your fingers, practicing an hour a day for a year would you get to be pretty darn decent in playing guitar.

Find tabs that you like. Also, get Power Tab Editor or Guitar Pro (which is better). They'll aid you in playing the songs you like.
