How difficult is it to obtain a court order to obtain someones tax records?

someone is threatening to take me to court to get a look at my returns......someone I owed money to and paid as a result of a lawsuit.

Now they want my tax returns.

  1. tough manure. they would have to file another suite and supeona them or show you were in violation of the original order and ask the judge to make you produce them.. otherwise, tell them to jump.

If there is an ongoing lawsuit, the other person can obtain your tax records in discovery as long as they can show good cause as to why they are needed - and there is nothing you can do about it if the Court orders it.  The court will then require you to sign a release.  If you refuse, you will likely be held in contempt and possibly jailed.

    Unless there is an actual lawsuit filed, they cannot obtain them unless you sign the appropriate release.
