I'm going to be taking it next May and was wondering if if would be really difficult. I'm not awful at math, but I'm not a genius either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Actually, AP Stats may not be for people who aren't good at math. AP Stats is a tough course that involves a lot of integration and appliance of several statistical concepts, like probability and inference. It is assumed by many to be a "lower" math course, but it really isn't. In fact, most colleges nowadays encourage students to take AP Stats during their senior year. As long as you study hard at it, you should do fine on the exam.

  2. AP Stats is the end of the lower math track in my school, too. I'm taking the advanced math track at my school, but I took AP Stats in addition to my advanced math class. Statistics is not hard, but everything about it is new. Also, it depends on the teacher. My teacher was a fantastic teacher, but he was extremely strict and intimidating, so the stress level of the class was very high and as a result the class seemed very hard. If you have a good teacher, getting a three on the exam shouldnt be hard. Make sure that you start going through previous free response sections in April. I found answering and scoring the free response sections very helpful (I ended up getting a 5).

  3. AP Stats is math for people who aren't good at math. It's what ends the 'lower' math sequence at my school. I'm sure you won't have any trouble with it. :)

  4. Statistics involves easier math and much more analytical skills than calculus. It's more conceptual, so if you understand the theories it's easy. It's completely different from any other math class you've taken, trust me. The difficulty of the exam depends on how well your teacher prepares you. It's best to ask the opinions your former stats students. If they say the class was easy and the exam was hard, don't take it.

And if you decide to take the exam, go to collegeboard and use the old free responses as practice (the mult choice is pretty easy).
