How difficult is the vibaphone to learn to play with no prior musical experience?

Question

I have no prior musical experience. Tried to learn guitar but injured my hand so that I can't make notes. I remember the xylophone fom grade school and know the vibaphone is similar and just an update. Is this an instrument that someone can pick up fairly quick and enjoy playing now that I'm in my graying years instead of learning to play for years and not enjoying it because I'm stuck with learning?

as long as ur willing to play and u know how to read notes, u should learn fast, not be the best player, but u'll learn fast

compared to other instruments, vibraphone would not require as much 'musical theory' since it is a monophonic instrument (no harmony), and the notes are laid out for you. you can catch up fairly quickly once you learn the basics. however, the difficult part would be the technical aspect, using the mallets accurately with speed and playing in steady rhythm, which is usually the challenge for most percussions.

i personally dont play the instrument but knows a friend who plays the marimba semi-professionally, and he absolutely loves his instrument. age doesnt matter in music; if you have the passion for it, go for it. cheers.

You have to be able to read music.

You have to learn where the notes are on the keyboard (its the same as a piano).

You need to be able to play with your hands and work the pedal with your foot at the same time (not too bad, kinda like working the pedal on a piano.)

Once you have those three things, it's a LOT of fun ^_^

well.. im a percussionist and in the eighth grade

and i think keyboard percussion is pretty easy

i know ur supposed to read the notes, but i always end up memorizing them :l

the notes arent that hard,

percussion is treble clef, so the lines are egbdf (every good boy deserves fudge)

spaces are face (spells face)
