Question:

How difficult will it be to pick up some private English teaching work on a month-long trip to South Korea?

I plan to travel to South Korea for about a month. I've read that it's easy to pick up private gigs teaching English there. I realize that I'm not supposed to do that on a tourist visa, but I'm willing to take my chances.

So, how realistic is it that I could help pay for my trip this way? Will it be relatively easy for me to pick up some work teaching private lessons, or do they usually happen only through networking, referrals, and back channels?

Thanks much!

  1. dude it is so easy theres all kinds of people in south korea who will pay thousands to have there kids be taught english privatly... my friend went to korea and made $3000 in one month teaching privatly... just ask around and you will find very fast!

  2. Well, there are tonnes of opportunities for teaching English over there.  It's a pretty awesome experience and great way to save some money.

However, it may be difficult to do this kind of thing for only one month.  Most people demand some sort of committment and usually a "4 year degree."  Although, you could possibly put up a short add on "Dave's ESL", "Work and Play," or even in the Korean newspapers before you go: (Korean Herald, Korean Times).  So you could possibly set something up before you go.

So those are a few ideas for you.   You may simply realize that you love being there and find yourself staying for a few years.  It happens all the time.

    Good luck!
