using alternative/renewable fuel sources?

I asked this question a few years ago when I first experimented with biodiesel and there are conversion kits for diesel engines but what about regular engines. It seems like it should be do-able since most gasoline contains a certain percentage of ethanol (as one example)

Has anyone considered this?

  1. Not hard at all.  You can do it yourself within a hour or two.  Honestly, YES it does work. I have done this to my 96 Saturn and currently get about 50 miles per gallon.

    I wrote a blog review about it here:

    It's very simple. You don't change your engine or computer. A quart-size (95O cc) container is placed somewhere under the hood. You fill it with DISTILLED WATER and a little bit of BAKING SODA. The device gets vacuum and electricity (12 Volts) from the engine, and produces HHO gas (Hydrogen+Oxygen). The HHO gas is supplied to the engine's intake manifold or carburetor as shown below.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Not difficult at all.  Many modern gas cars can handle E85 with few or no modifications necessary.  Often one only needs to change the setting on the engine computer.

    Unfortunately ethanol is not (currently) a 'renewable fuel source' because a large quantity of fossil fuels are needed to produce it.

  3. Well, I'm not an engineer, so I have no idea how difficult it would be to create such a thing. But I've been doing a lot of reading online about alternative fuels and converting water to gas, and I assume with the right knowledge, it's probably not too hard.

    I don't know if you're thinking of something similar to what's already been invented or something different, but with the way things are going these days, I hope someone comes up with a good solution to high gas prices soon.
