Just curious. That will will the range of my first bike. I took an MSF course. If I had the money, or the time I'd start on a 250-400, but I'm moving a state away from parents for a radiology school and I simply wont be able to upgrade. Im hoping to get one in the 500-600cc range but I'll take what I can get. Anyways, in first gear, is it even possible just by gunning the throttle? Or would it have to be combined with holding the clutch? If its only by holding the clutch, then I'm not really worried.

  1. Not difficult at all - by accident.  My first bike was a 400 cc bike, and the FIRST day I almost killed myself by accidentally flipping the bike over my head (wheelie).

That is why a person who learn on a smaller bike.  Yes you will get tired of small 250cc.  But you will also get tired of 500 cc.  So following your logic, you should start with 1000cc.

    NOT!!!

respect the dangers of riding.  The more you respect it, the less you will to stupid stuff and less you will take risks.

Stupid stuff like starting out on large bike.

    Good Luck...

  2. you can pull a wheelie  in first without the clut on those suckers.Just have to watch. If you get one with a power band and when it kicks in the bike will be gone and you'll be sitting on the road.

  3. i've got a lowered cbr600 and have only done one accidental wheelie in three years. and that was full throttle in second going like 60 mph over a small hill or big hump.

  4. depends on the bike...

my 1100 Yamaha just lights up the rear end... but its an old bike with a long wheel base..  the 250 LC stands up just on the throttle..narrow powerband & a light bike..

but most of the 500cc plus bikes will have more than enough go for a learner...,,   I would suggest something like the SV650 Suzuki..

stay away from the 4 cylinder sports bikes... way to much go..

  5. not that hard

  6. Yes it is possible to do one, more so on one of the play racer look alike motorcycles than a standard or cruiser style motorcycle..
