Question:

How do Alaskan King Crabs get in the cages they are caught in? How long is a crabbing season?

I'm watching Deadliest Catch and and those are a couple things I was wondering.

  1. The opening in the trap (pot) is sort of funnel shaped. The crabs crawl in through the funnel and drop to the bottom of the trap. They CAN get back out but they seldom figure that out but continue to crawl around on the bottom of the trap until it is pulled onto the crab boat.


  2. in alaska, crabbing season only lasts for a few days to a couple weeks. the crab pots have a wire hole that the crabs crawl in to. once they are inside they cannot get out, they are not smart enough ; )
