I live in NSW Australia and am currently doing my HSC (the equivalent of the American SAT's essentially. I am looking at going to university overseas and was wondering how do uni's convert marks into 'entry points'. In Australia we have a UAI (university admission index) which determines what courses we can do. How do American universities determine who is allowed entry? Especially if they are from another country?

  1. You will have to take the SAT I and possible the SAT II: Subject Tests or the ACT to be considered for undergraduate admission in the U.S. Your UAI will not be considered.

For a general graduate program then the GRE is required. For an MBA the GMAT is required and for Law School it is the LSAT. Medical and other professions also have their own entrance requirements for admission on said program.
