How do Democrats propose that we deal with the global problem of islamic extremism?

I see a lot of ciritcism, but very few valid ideas from the left. Negotiating with these people is not an option. If we don't fight them, what do you propose? That we ignore them and allow them to spread their totalitarian, zero-tolerance religion further? Should we take an isolationist approach until we have a world war II sized problem on our hands?
