Please list as much as possible about the routine care of Dominican girl's hair. I am haitian and my hair is black, long, soft , but thick.. I air dry it now because I don't want to damage my hair with heat, but it comes out really, really frizzy, thick and kinky and hard to comb through, but it's NOT Nappy...

  1. Im Dominican and our hair is hard to take care of. If I'm not mistaken Haitian hair is way different than Dominican hair. But alot of Dominican women get there hair straightened. They relax there hair but after that you have to keep up with it constantly. Blow drying it constantly and humidity is a big problem. For some reason we dont embrace our curls. Well I do...but most Dominican women dont. We use alot of Dominican rinse and conditioner products. And normally we spin our hair around our heads (forget what its called) and keep it up with pins(lots of them) so it wont frizz out or get messed up while we sleep or work (because most of us paid big bucks to get it to look good lol). Its a pain in the butt honestly.

  2. If you follow these steps you will remember why Dominicans have the way we do:

First make an evaluation of your hair, does it need to be relaxed or is manageable with the proper care. I would suggest to skip the first step and do the rest steps for about one month and if you are not happy start from step 1.

    1. Relax your hair about every 3 months - this is very important because if you don’t do it that often your hair will break, also to relax your hair go to a Dominican hair stylist so they apply the right relaxer (there is different levels since not all hair is the same).

    2. When you wash your hair make sure you have good hair treatment (note: not conditioner since its not the same) after shampoo, try to have more than one at home so alternate every time you wash your hair (hair gets tired of same hair treatment). Excellent ones are Bonawell, Silicon, 10 en 1; after shampoo apply and leave for about 10 mins and rinse with a lot of water.

    3. You need to get some flat rollers, bobby pins and a hair dryer; check the site below to see the picture and you can understand what I mean. Get under the dryer from as long as your hair needs to be completely dry, to check this after 30 minutes under the dryer you will unfold one of the rollers (try one of the ones that have the hair that’s the longest). THIS STEP IS THE MOST IMPORTANT BECAUSE THIS WILL KEEP YOUR HAIR SO HEALTHY YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYES…TRUST ME!

    4. Here you can do one of two things, fold the hair around your head while combing it so its being strecht and hold by bobby pins in what we call a “Tubi”. Or you want you can blow dry only the roots and when done make what we call an onion which to fold the ends inward (it looks like an onion). Both you can do while you do things around the house or finish getting ready to go out, unfold the hair once you are ready to go out.

**try to avoid hairspray, moose, gel, hot iron or anything that damages your hair.
