  1. In a hydrogen fuel cell, there are two chambers separated by a very thin membrane.  One chamber contains oxygen, the other contains hydrogen.  A catalyst causes the hydrogen to lose its electron and phase through the barrier to the oxygen chamber as a naked proton.  The electron is directed along a circuit where its energy may be used to drive a motor or for other purposes.  Two electrons join two protons and an oxygen on the other side of the membrane after being used in the circuit to create a water molecule, which is then expelled as exaust.  I believe energy from the reaction producing the water is used to strip more hydrogen ions, but the energy to do work from a hydrogen cell is based on the electric current produced by electrons from the hydrogens.

  3. There are two ways one as previously stated the other is doing the process in reverse .

    both ways require a great deal of electricity.
