Question:

How do I Increase Fuel Economy/Mileage Higher MPG?

Besides modifying your driving habits (which I am all for) and choosing a different vehicle. What modifications do you know/think can be done to a car to increase the fuel economy, I'm making a list of these to later on test them out and see how much they really improve the MPG rating or if they even improved any at all. Thanks in advance for all the help.

  1. Reduce the c**p in your car, I removed the backseat

    Hypermilling works well

I have 15 inch wheels and by putting skinny 165SR 15`s and hyperinflating  to 65psi I gained5mpg in town with a V-6 1982 Chevy Malibu. From 18 to 23mpg after all was done. Tires wear out a bit faster, but I have been using $20 used tires anyway...helps on keeping the

    cost down.

  2. inflate your tires to the proper pressure, click your heels together three times and thank the messiah, barack obama, for the wisdom and strength to get us through this crisis unscathed.

"there is no place like obama's home, there is no place like obama's home, there is no place like obama's home."

  3. Increasing air flow in and out makes the car little bit more power AND increase MPG.

I had short air intake and exhaust header pipes done and they increase some power and increased my MPG.

    Good Luck...

  4. take all the useless c**p out of the trunk, don't use the A/C, keep the tires inflated to the recommended pressure (unless you have a compressor, you're beat on that)

  5. driving style is everything, the biggest thing you can do is slow down and try some of these ideas..

  6. 1.  Check your alignment.

    2.  Check tire pressure.  Over-inflate all four tires by about 5 psi.

    3.  Replace the air filter.  Better breathing means better combustion.

    4.  Clean out your trunk and back seat.  Any additional weight costs you gas mileage.

    5.  Remove the roof rack.  Creates drag.

    6.  Drive with your windows closed.  open windows create drag.

    7.  Use you a/c as needed.  The rest of the time use the fan only and the fresh air setting.

    8.  Check the owner's manual and make sure you are using the right oil weight for your car.

Do a web search for hypermiling.  there are people who have figured out how to boost mpg by a good bit.  I did the tires and the air filter and got 2 mpg additional on my 2000 Accord, up from 31mpg to 33 mpg.
