  1. Make use of the refractive index.

Immerse it in corn syrup. Glass and cubic zirconia lose their sparkle when immersed in corn syrup. Diamond retains some of its sparkle.

You can try scratching it, but that risks damaging a nice piece of jewellery.

  2. Just take it to a jewelry shop and ask them.  They should be able to tell pretty quickly and they probably won't charge you a dime.

  3. if they last forever

  4. i read on a diamond website once that u have 2 take red lipstick and rub it on ur palm(just a thin coat) then rub the diamond on it and if they lipstick turns a different color then its fake. hope that helps.

  5. tap it and see what the noise is

  6. "Real diamonds are made of glass"

    Classic!

  7. They don't scatch easily. Check for surface scratches.

  8. To correct another answerer...  real diamonds are made of, well, diamonds...  if you have a diamond made of glass, it's fake...

  9. Try and break them and if they break they are fake

  10. The common test is to try and scratch glass with it.  Most diamond substitutes are too soft to scratch glass, and most materials hard enough to scratch glass don't look anythign like a diamond.

But the only way to be sure is to ask a professional.  If not a jeweler, then a geologist.

  11. The answers that involve checking the refractive index would be the ones I would try. Diamonds are expensive and non-destructive testing is called for.

  12. get a pin and try to scratch the backside of it, somewhere not so obvious just in case it does scratch.

  13. An easy cheep way to find out if a diamond is real...is to sratch it on glass.  If the diamond scratched...it is real.  If it doesnt...it is fake.  Now you may be thinking well i dont want to ruin my bathroom mirror to find out!!!  But, you can find a cheep little mirror from the dollar store or something and test it that way.

    I hope this helps!!!

  14. Real Diamonds are made of glass?! I don't think so.

You can get a jewelers eye loupe and if you see a double reflection of a facet (the edge of the facet) it's a fake diamond.

  15. It is not that easy to try to scratch glass with small diamonds in a setting:  In any case not all glass has the same hardness, and some diamond substitutes are harder than glass.  The Refractive Index is the best test, and for that you would need a special tool, which any good jeweller will have. - you can try the corn syrup test, it may give you a clue, and it will certainly make your earings sticky. Whatever you do, don't try to hit it with a hammer - diamonds do break if they are hit hard enough, and it is a good way to lose your friends.

  16. I would of just taken it to a jewlers but id just wait untill you have to go somewhere nearby coz gas is really exensive.

  17. it will cut through glass i think? yea just take it to a jewler

  18. Bang it against a wall lightly.  It may or it may not be plastic.  Real diamonds are made from glass.

  19. Scratch it with a dime..

    If it scratches - it's fake. If it doesn't - it's real.
