How do I Make a Boy-Friendly Pink Room?

I have a pink nursery that I do not want to repaint. How can I make light pink walls boy-friendly? Are there any decor color choices that I can make to have the room seem more masculine?

  1. Here are a few options:

    1.  Frame a Pink Panther poster such as this one http://www.art.com/asp/sp-asp/_/pd--1011...  Hang it as the focal point of the room.  Use bold blue accents and bedding.

    2. If you prefer something a little more traditional you could buy a Winnie the Pooh bedding set with Piglet tying in the pink walls.  Just be sure to use green accents throughout the rest of the room.  Here's an example from Walmart http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.d...

    3.  Or be an activist and make a statement with a "Real Men Wear Pink" theme.  Google men in pink, pink tie, or a similar search for photos of celebrities wearing pink.  Print a few of your favorites, buy black mats and black frames and you have inexpensive wall hangings.  Pair with black accents and bedding (you can even dye an old crib set).  Buy iron-on letters to write the slogan on your crib blanket.

    4.  For an extreme nursery and if you have a little extra to spend purchase wall clings from www.whatisblik.com  They have graphics from the old arcade game Donkey Kong that could tie in the pink or there are many other designs and themes to choose from.

  2. Paint is less expensive than most decorating ideas suggested already.

Posters and prints add up fast, and always look cheap.

Floor-to-ceiling drapes will be very expensive, and you'll never use them again -- and they make the room feel smaller.

The baby won't care what color the room is -- don't worry that he will be a 'sissy' if his room is pink.  He will be more interested in whatever contrasts with the pink for him to look at, anyway.

  3. If the kid is small enough for a nursery, then they probably won't care too much about the color.  If the kid is old enough to be bothered,,,, go ahead and paint the room, and let them help.

If you are just trying to make do, until you figure it out,,,,

Posters, wall hangings, throw rugs on the walls, anything to cover up most of the pink.  Maybe some dark contrasting colors, since it is so hard to match up pink.

Cherry wood, red oak, might work, depending on the shade of pink and the patina in the wood.

Paint seems easier,,,, maybe you could leave some pink around the windows, doors, ceiling and floor,,,,,, so you wouldn't have to cut-in the whole room.  That saves hours on painting.

  4. add loads of blues and browns. or hang floor-to-ceiling drapes to cover one wall, just like light white sheers that aren't very costly. hang posters, pictures, art, paint a wall with whiteboard or chalkboard paint.

    good luck!

  5. Trim the room in brown.  My older daughter recommends Home Design TV or its web site that will help you decide.  Add Action figure decals.  s****. doo may help off set the pink with teal pink brown and yellow colors.  Don't forget to put brown dominant spreads and pillows.

  6. See if you can find a border at the paint store that complements pink and run it at chair rail height (36") around the room. Pastel blue and gray goes with pink BTW. Go to art.com and look for some large artwork 24 X 36 to put on the walls. Go to flor.com and use the 18" X 18" carpet tiles for a rug. Mix 'n match the colors. It's fun.
