  1. Besides all the fun stuff, think about why you're having the ceremony- what does it mean to you and your family?  Generally speaking, baptisms are when parents publicly state their intention to raise their child in the faith, and when the Christian community promises to welcome and support them.  In addition, depending on your denomination, there might be special blessings or annointings for the baby.

Think about godparents or sponsors, too.  You'll need at least one, and generally he or she has to a member of the same denomination (Methodist, Catholic, etc).  This doesn't have to be the person that wold raise your child if something happened to you.  It could be just an honorary title for the ceremony, or it could be that you want the person to help your daughter learn how to live out their faith.

Also, depending on the church you're working with, they may ask you to attend 'preparation' sessions, or be a member for 3-6 months before they baptize your daughter.  A lot of pastors want to know that you're already practicing the faith.  If you're not a member of a church already, you could call around and talk to folks to see about their requirements.  Better yet, visit them until you find one that "fits" and would be a community you want yourself and your daughter to be around!!

    Good luck and many blessings!

  2. First you have to set up with a meeting with the Pastor and he will tell you what dates and times are available.  Then you have to let family and friends know about it, either by calling them or sending an invite.  After the service, plan on some cake and punch at the church, or have lunch out, or have people back at your house.  Remember a nice outfit, a shawl, and some shoes for the baby's special day.  Also, you will get gifts and remember the thank you notes.
