  1. Well, the gamemaster/dungeonmaster might do most or all of the work for you the first time or two you play, but the players eventually learn the rules enough to do some things for themselves.

Find a local hobby/game shop.  If they sell board games, Dungeons and Dragons, etc, find out if they have an open gaming night, and if anyone plays D&D in it.  Sometimes they'll have a board to post stuff on, and you can post something saying you're interested in learning D&D, and you might get someone to teach you how.

  2. Dungeons & Dragons and all other role playing games, really, have one rule: participate. The gamemaster/dungeonmaster has done all the work. The GM/DM has done all the work and you have to do is listen to the instructions, stay in character and make decisions based on the information given. Most cities and college town have game conventions running during three-day weekends. You best bet is to start at a game convention. Have fun!

    Does that help you? ^_~

  4. How do you play D&D... any way you want to.

You can buy all of the rule books and religiously adhere to them.

You can buy a few book and mostly follow rules, but ignore then when you feel its better.

You can not buy anything and just play completely freeform, where you games resemble acting instead of gaming.

You cam make god like characters that destroy countries with but a thought.

You can make weak characters that rely on their party to survive.

You can make characters that are a mixture of the two.

Theres no right or wrong way to play Dungeons and Dragons, its all up to you the players.

As a basic way that "Most People" play D*D you have a DM (the one telling the story) and between 2-5 players (the ones that interact with the DM's Story)

From there you play through the world that the DM creates for you using the rules that Wizards of the Coast put out in their 3 core books (Players Handbook, Dungeon Masters Guide, Monster Manual) to interact with that world.

And as to being smart being able to read your question... Its been proven as long as the first and last letter of a word are in the right position you can rearrange all of the other letters in a word and it is still readable.  At least with words with less that 5 syllables
