How do I Transfer a Video from a digital camera?

I have a Sony Cyber-shot digital camera and when i tried transferring a video i recorded just by dragging it to my documents it wouldn't work...

  1. If you're trying to drag it straight off the camera it might not allow it.  You'll either have to transfer it with the software the camera came with, or if you don't have the software, you'll need to get a card reader for your memory card (You'll need the one that goes for a MSProDuo card)

    Then you'll just put the card in the reader, the reader in the USB port, and open the card up and try to transfer from there.

    If it's saying it can't open the file at all, make note of what format the camera saves the video in.  I know in Kodak cameras it saves all video in QuickTime format, which can be a pain in the rear.

    I'm not sure what the Sony saves its video in, but if you do need to convert it to an .avi file (so you can play it back in Windows Media) Download the Apex Movie Converter (it's free and what I use) and it will convert the file to .avi
