How do I Volunteer in NYC for an event management work?

I am in NYC on H4 visa, looking for volunteer work for an event management or public relation related work. I have a work experience of 2 years with Johnson & Johnson, India. I would like to get associated with someone in event management or Public Relations filed to gather some more experience.

Don't volunteer.  They will pay you if you are reliable.  Go to a sports event and get the superivsor's name from one of the Event Staff with the yellow jackets. /
