I have a surveillance system connected by ethernet cable to a wireless router. I know the private IP address of the s-system on the local network, and I know the public IP address of the router on the internet.

How can I access the s-system from the internet at large? (The s-system has it's own security features so I am unconcerned about intrusion from others)

  1. Best if you give the device on the lan a static private address (high number ie 192.168.X.30

When you have done that connect to your router using ur browser and add that address to the DMZ. What this means that your internal address is matched to the router external address so you can access the device from outside using the router external address

  2. You will have to enable port forwarding to your internal IP address.  Your router will have a configuration to enable port forwarding.  Each router is different so depends on what brand router you are using in how to do this, but check the manual to setup port forwarding.  Whatever port the surveillance systems uses is what needs to be forwarded.  Then you can connect to the system using your public IP address
