Question:

How do I access my family Genealogy without paying $29.95 a month?

I've been searching online and I can't seem to find anything. I think I should have a right to know where my roots came from without having to pay a "low monthly price". It's ridiculous. Does anyone know where I can find out where my ancestors came from for free?

  1. the mourmons

  2. you would have to do the work yourself. you can go to their birth states and research records. birth and death records, wedding certif. and rolls. very labor intensive.

  3. Well I did this a few years ago and many sites offer a short free trial period (or at least they did.) I used the site for free during my trial period and then canceled before I was charged.

I may have paid for it after my trial period but I did not really find a whole lot of anything. Good luck!

  4. I belong to ancestry.com and I only pay like $4.95 a month for a basic membership.  It is a membership only for U.S. information -- you'd have to pay more if you want a world membership.  But it has all the U.S. immigration information.

You can also check your local library -- many of them have genealogy sections, or at least the library may subscribe to a genealogy service and you can search those archives for free.

The Mormons have Family History Centers and if you live near one, you can search all their databases for free.  You don't have to be Mormon and they won't try to convert you (I'm not Mormon!)  Check to see if you have one near you:
