How do I act less pretentious?

I'm writing what I hope turns out to be a book, but want to sound like I love myself slightly less than I really do, so any potential readers do not hate me.

if you are writing a biography, I hope you are famous honey, because no one will read it!  A person who loves themselves so much admittedly, is probably someone who has no friends.  It really depends on what you want in life!

If you are writing a book, pretentiousness may be part of the story.  Bad question, as you act in REALTIME, what does that have to do with THE BOOK?   DON"T ACT

My advice is to be completely honest.  So much so that they will hate you.

Then, after your book is finished and you start getting the looks and the hate mail, your ego will be crushed (maybe) and thus you wont have to "act less pretentious" because you'll be thus so.  And you might be thankful for it.
