I went on google and it has not helped me that much.

So I am using apache and when creating a .htaccess I used notepad. I saved .htaccess into htdocs in apache but I found out it is actually .htaccess.txt so when I get rid of the .txt extension it says "you must type a file name".

Any help here?

  1. In Windows, you can also place double-quotes around the name...

    Save As -> ".htaccess"

    (include the quotes)

  2. open it up again in notepad.

    click save as.

    remove the .txt

    click the drop down box

    select "all file types"

    click save

    just tested it on my laptop, and it worked fine when i did the above

  3. If on Windows, use the ren command on the command line to rename the file.
