I want to use a separate 30 amp circuit breaker in my house panel to run electricity to a metal shed. Since the shed is sitting on the ground, how do I add GFCI protection to my receptacle circuit?

  1. You can have a 30 amp breaker in the house and run it to the shed. But then you have to split the line in the shed to 15 or 20 amps to use it for anything. A 30 amp is for a electrical water heater or something else big like that,,which idoubt you have in a shed.

Why not just run 2 lines to the shed,,,say 2 15 ampers. In the shed you just put in 2 gfi outlets,,,one for each line??

  2. the easiest and least expensive way would be to make the first receptacle in the circuit a gfci. any other receptacle or fixture down from it is also protected.

  3. Easiest way would be to first replace the standard breaker for your 30 amp circuit with a GFCI breaker, then you won't have to mess with those special outlets at the shed.
