I already have a desktop and a laptop on my wireless network. I bought a new desktop computer and want to add it to the network. On my first desktop I have the router and another box connected to it. Do I need to buy another box for the new computer?

  1. yeah

  2. YOu just need a network cable if you still have available port at the back of your router. Or, if you want your new desktop to be connected thru wireless. You need to purchase a wireless card put it in you new desktop and you need to configure it in order to connect to you router.

  3. No, you will most likely want to connect the new desktop to the network using a wireless connection. The new computer will need to be equipped with a wireless networking card that is compatible with the router (IEEE 802.11). Once the computer has a networking card, you can connect to your network or choose from a list of available wireless networks.

  4. To make this easy for you, I would like to suggest you try a free download of Network Magic: http://www.networkmagic.com/download

Network Magic automatically creates a map of the computers and devices sharing your Internet connection and updates it whenever a change occurs, letting you know who and what is currently online. So if you're using wireless internet on your new desktop computer, you definitely don't need another router, because  the network map tells you when an unknown computer tries to access your wireless network. In your case, it will be a known computer (yours), in which case you can grant that computer access to your wireless network as well as easily access technical details, like the IP address or the administration page for any device -- right from the network map.

I do work for Pure Networks, so I can tell you that another great reason why right now is such a great time to try the 7 day free trial, if you like what you see, there's a 20% coupon valid until July 14th: http://www.networkmagic.com/ "Spring into Summer" - hope this helps!
