  1. First responder is correct.  But there are complications; if there is a mortgage on the place, a new deed may trigger a "due on sale" clause, and it may be necessary to rewrite the mortgage.  Also, some states impose transfer taxes, which may or may not apply in your case; check with the local taxing authorities to see.  The paperwork for the actual transfer will be dirt cheap: you will need to draw the deed (requires a typewriter), get it notarized (probably free at your bank, maybe $5 elsewhere), and pay the recording fee (probably less than $20).  Sample text:

    Grant Deed

    For a good and valuable consideration, receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, John Doe, a married man, grants to John Doe and Mary Doe, as joint tenants with right of survivorship, all the real property known as [insert legal description from your original deed here].

    Executed at Springfield, USA, this 31st day of July, 2007.  [Add a signature line.]
