How do I add up (caluculate) a column in Excel?

I click where I wcalculatetal then make sure I get the skinny cross then drag. Am I supposed to put an equal sign first? Thank you

  1. You can either use a formula or highlight the column you want to calculate and press the ∑ button at the top.


  2. just type in

    =SUM(A1:A50)

    (assuming your numbers are in a1 thru a50

    you can also type in =SUM(

    then select the first cell, hold down your <shift> key, and scroll down to the bottom.  as you do you'll see excel fill in the range for you.  then press <enter>

  3. after having finish entering all your data into various cells (like from cell A1 to A5) you now click on cell A6, then click on the sum sign on task bar. it would sum up the figures and put the total in cell A6. Try this first and i will give another options next time.
