I'M A SINGLE PARENT AND I HAVE AN 18 MONTH OLD BOY. I WANT TO ADOPT AN ASIAN BABY GIRL. MY SON IS PARTLY ASIAN AND HE LOOKS IT AND I FEEL THAT ADOPTING AN ASIAN GIRL OR A GIRL OF ASIAN DECENT WOULD BE PERFECT. I DON'T WANT TO BEAR ANYMORE KIDS. NOT THAT MY PREGNANCY WAS TOO DIFFICULT. I JUST DON'T WANT TO GO THROUGH IT. I'D RATHER GO THROUGH ADOPTION HASSLES. HOW DO I GO ABOUT DOING THAT? EITHER FROM US OR FROM ASIA? (JAPANESE/CHINESE/CAMBODIAN)

  1. You'd have to find an adoption agency that suits your needs. Just google it. The only thing is that you have to be prepared for the extensive process and you have to make sure that you have enough money (because it can be quite expensive). I suggest doing your homework well before you go ahead with your decision. There are many checks into your personal life (sometimes it is a bit embarrassing) and your financial and family situation. If you choose to adopt overseas, the countries that you may choose (especially Asian ones) have requirements that you have to meet in order to adopt, for example age, $$ and relationship status, and many might not let you adopt just for the fact that you are single. Some countries don't let couples outside of the country adopt at all.I know I sound sort of like I am putting you off, but really I'm just telling you that it is something that you really really need to make sure that you are prepared for.My cousin does this sort of work and she tells me that so many people pull out of the adoption process when they realize how hard the process can be and how long the waiting lists can be (especially when you are looking for a certain child). If you are willing to do all that good on you :) My dad's friend was on a waiting list for many years and they just decided to wait the three and get a baby from Guatemala.Whatever you decide, good luck to you and your family !

  2. Kazakhstan allows single mothers and the Kazakh children are Asian.  My daughter is adopted from Kazakhstan, and most people asume she is Chinese.  It is very expensive.  So if you have the money to adopt (about $35,000) then look into Kazakhstan.  Contact Little Miracles adoption agency.  There are many others, but that's one of the biggest.

  3. As a single parent you are not eligible for adoption from China or Korea.  I don't know if you would be eligible for Vietnam.  You might want to look into that.  Japan doesn't adopt internationally, and people from the US cannot (and should not) adopt from Cambodia because of unethical practices that have happened there in the past.

You could look into Taiwan or even Kazakhstan, some of the children there are of Asian descent, and I think they adopt to single parents.  But all of these choices, I don't think you have a choice as to the s*x of your child.  And...I personally don't think it is ethical to ask for a child of a specific s*x anyway.  You can't get pregnant and ask for only a girl, so why should it be any different with an adopted child?

  4. As a single parent you do not meet the requirements to adopt from China. As of May 1, 2007, only married couples are allowed to adopt. Thailand, Hong Kong and Korea also either prohibit or greatly discourage singles from adopting. Japan has very very few adoptions and the ones that do occur can be extremely expensive. Cambodia is shut down indefinitely due to corruption. You could try contacting your local foster care service to see if there are children of asian decent in need of a home.

Vietnam and Taiwan, are options, but I would heavily advise you to research international adoption and the many deeper issues that are a part of it before you go in any deeper. I don't mean to accuse or judge (I have adopted asian children as well) but your explanation of wanting only an asian girl to match your asian boy (if I am interpreting this wrong I apologize, thats just what I got from reading your question) were a bit worrisome for me. Please don't take that as an insult, it was just the only information you provided.

  5. Check out some local adoption agencies and for a consultation or to attend their next info meeting..

Every country has different regulations.  China, for example requires that adoptive parents be married and both partners need to be at least 30 years old.  Many countries require a visit (sometimes more than one) to the country.

There are many great adoption resources on the internet but to get the most up to date info, talk to some agencies.  Talk to several and ask to see their fee schedule upfront.   Ask if they do both domestic and international adoptions.

    Good luck!

  6. In Cambodia if you are unmarried you must be between 40 – 50 . There are boundless Asian countries you can do a Google search like Laos Adoption, Vietnam adoption etc.  It can be quite costly we're talking possibly thousand and thousands of dollars.

If you want to you could try a domestic adoption just say you’re looking for a mixed raced child that has some Asian in them.  Coming from a mixed race person I think adopting a mixed raced child when  you already have one could be beneficial for your current child and future child you want to adopt. The kids would have something in common they are both multiracials and believe me  sometimes it can be difficult being a mixie in a country where for right now monoraicals are the majority.
