Im looking for a place to live, which I can afford. I'm a broke college student with no financial aid, because of my parents income. Im not getting any money from them, and they want me out of the house. So I'm wondering about living in the projects, some where here in the LA county area, with two friends of mine, who have jobs and the whole jazz, but can we qualify???

thanks for the help

  1. you apply at your city hall...well at least you do where i live, i imagine it is the same for you. but most affordable housing is set aside for families, and people with children will get it before you do. And there is usually a waiting list.

  2. Rent a room in a house for $300. That's the best you can do. /

  3. There is a new Government Federal Housing Mortgage Lending Program out that just got passed into Law.

Here is the Article that talks about it.

  4. Together you guys should be able to get an apartment. I doubt you could qualify unless it was just you. Good luck.

  5. None of the tax payer housing programs are for student housing. They are for low income families. Can you imagine the tax burden if we housed all of the college students?

Your parents have plenty of money, they need to pay for student housing. Otherwise you can get a student loan and pay for housing with it.

  6. contact housing authority

  7. see your school counselor, church, neighbors, friends, neighborhood organizations for the needy.

call the housing authority re section 8 or whatever they call it there.

i have no idea if they have anything for a single young person with no children and no mental illness or other disability.

if you are under 18 call the welfare office.

try rooming with friends, extended family till you get on your feet.

look into on campus work programs and work at home computer jobs for money.

you can also do car washes, house sittig, dog walking, yard sales, etc for extra money.
