Question:

How do I approach my boss for a raise?

Nearly 2 months ago I approached my bosses about a raise that I should have received at the end of 2007. They put it off with warning because of a deal that was going through, but now there seems to be no good reason. I've asked them to schedule a time on several occasions but now I feel like I'm bordering on nagging. What should I do?

  1. Go to your boss

    if necessary have a meeting

what is the purpose?  A raise

    When asking for a raise

you need to state the reasons why

    you need one for example

    having an addition

    ( family )

    expenses like rent utilities

    specify how much

If you have asked several times

to no avail talk to his secretary

  2. I think you should just ask, works if your the type of person who is a go getter if you know what I mean

  3. Find out from the office gossip what is going on with the deal, what happened and what didn't happen. Maybe they don't have the money for your raise if the deal fell thru? Also looking around wouldn't hurt.. if you feel under appreciated there.

  4. If you feel like you're nagging, they may feel that way, also.  Maybe there's someone who has a better idea of company finances that you can ask as far as where they are financially, maybe there are some lingering issues from the deal, or something new has come up that they haven't told everyone in the company about yet.  Maybe put it off until later this year.  I only say that because you said you felt like you might be in that nagging region, and times are too bad right now to alienate your employer!
