I take Adderall xr for ADD and I have been for almost 2 yrs now. I am perscribed the 10mg and to really get any effect I have to take 2 (20mgs). I want to ask my doctor for more but because its so common that this drug is abused I don't know if she will increase my percription to 20 mg pills. How should I ask her?

  1. First tell your doctor you symptoms you are still having on the dose she gave you.  Tell her your concerned it's not working and that your wondering if a higher dose will help.  Doctors are not God.  We PAY them to help us.  Don't be afraid, hold your ground and good luck.

  2. this isn't so hard. tell her you feel like you body has adapted to your current prescription and you aren't responding as well and feeling focused as you used to. Ask her "would upping my dose a little help?" as humans we do adapt to medication and after awhile a change in dose can become necessary.

  3. she will only increase if u need it and u should not have a problem with askin its 4 your heath

  4. just tell her that the 10mg arent cutting it, they dont make u feel any better

  5. The best way is to just be honest.  Tell her you feel you may be developing a tolerance to the medication, have tried taking 20 mg, and have found it to be more effective.  I'm sure you know by now that it is an amphedimine and addictive, so dosing yourself without your doctor's knowledge or advise is only going to come back to bite you.

Just tell the truth.  She may increase your dose or maybe add another drug.
