How do I ask my mom to butt out?

I want my mom to become less involved in my life. Sometimes I wish I could just completely lose contact with her. That would involve losing contact with my dad too, and I just can’t handle that.

Wow, same boat: my mother is a complete narcissist and I can barely tolerate her sometimes.  My father however is great.  Unfortunately if you want to keep contact with him you need to find a way to manage her as well.  I haven't found a good way to handle it yet :(

Move out, be completely financially independent and then you can just keep contact with her on your terms.  Screen her calls, call her when you want, visit when you want.  When she does something that makes you mad either be an adult and explain why you are mad or if that won't work just tell her you have to go every time she makes you mad.
