How do I beat a tennis player who hits real hard and goes for many shots but is sometimes inconsistent?

The secret is keeping the ball in play and try moving him around.

If he is inconsistent, the longer you keep the rally going, the better chance you'll have at winning the point.

With the big serve, try just punching it back. If he comes in after it, try going down the line with the return.

You usually practice more and you can slow the pace down with a slice, also playing against with a hard hitter you should always stand a bit back behind the base line and so the ball will feel a bit slower and easier for you to hit back. Also when dealing with hard hitting inconsistence players you usually just rally as much as possible and wait for your opponent  to make mistakes. Try to make ur opponent  run a bit by hitting drop shots or big angle shots.
