How do I become a Canadian Citizen? (See details inside)?

I'm 18 and want to live in Canada. I am entered in my fall semester into a Community College. I might just finish the fall semester and not go onto the spring if I get everything set out. I really want to go to a college up there, I'm not for sure which one yet, but I do know I want to go study up there for the rest of my college years.

I know I need to become a Canadian citizen, but what category would I be filed under? (I've looked here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp)

I live in Texas, and have no clue where I could go to get these papers I will need to turn in. I saw that the Canadian Visa Offices are here: United States (Buffalo – Detroit – Los Angeles – New York – Seattle – Washington, D.C.).......none in Texas....

I do have an internship at my job right now, and I made really good grades in high school and plan on making good grades in college as well.

If I do move I will have a family to take care of me.

Please, try to help me and give me much information as possible. It would help me a lot since I don't have anybody here who could help me.

  1. with your age and no skills yet the only way you can come to canada is on a student visa, you need to be accepted by a school/uni then apply for a visa

you have to pay international student fees and they are not cheap

OR if you have a close family member they can sponsor you to become a remanent resident but this can take some time to be processed

  2. In order to be eligibile for Canadian citizenship you must have lived in Canada as a permanent resident for 3 of the last 4 years.

You could try to get into a Canadian university on a student visa.

Below is a sample of the application form,

  3. There are many ways to immigrate to Canada.

Maybe your #1 would be student visa, take at least a 2 yr. college program, then apply for a post graduate work permit and after 1 year work experience apply for permanent residency through the new canadian experience class

#2 try for job skills to qualify for a provincial nominee program, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/p... get a job offer and apply for your PR through the PNP

#3 all else fails, get a nanny visa, you'd need child care experience, 2 years as a nanny = the right to apply for PR, add 4-5 months processing time

#4 say you go to Canada on some other visa, meet a guy and get married, he can sponsor you for PR

#5 study the points system to immigrate as a federal skilled worker and earn enough points to qualify, figure in 1.5 to 2 yrs. processing time.

  4. FIRST you need to finish school and get some work experience. Canada takes SKILLED workers and right now you are not skilled.

You need to have at least 1 years work experience in your chosen field before you can apply. 4 years is better - gives you more points.

You must meet the following minimum requirements to apply as a skilled worker:

You must have at least one continuous year of full-time, paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time [1 year full time - 2 years part time]. continuous employment. Your work experience must be Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations) or Skill Level A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades) on the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC).

You must have had this experience within the last 10 years.

    NOC list

assessment test - you must get 67 points to qualify.

You will need at least $10,000 saved up - more if you have family - before you apply as you will be required to show this proof that you have this money when you apply.

application processing times in Skilled worker category

Currently taking 2 years from USA. And then after you are admitted to Canada, you MUST live in Canada for 3 years before you can apply to be a citizen. That is currently taking about 12 months to be processed, so altogether it takes you 6 years to legally become a Canadian citizen.
