  1. It depends on the city in which you reside and the specific requirements of that city.  As a general rule, city counselors are elected and must be a resident of the city at the time of the election (some cities require a 12-month residency prior to the election).

    Some cities require a petition signed by a minimum number of citizens within the city for you to be placed on the ballot.

    A candidate for City Counselor must usually also be a qualified voter for the state and city in which he/she wishes to serve.

    There is usually a minimum age attached to the requirements for the position.

    Candidates, as a general rule, can not be financially delinquent to the city in which they are seeking election.

    These are merely GENERAL requirements and may or may not apply to the position within your city.


  2. Go down to your local City -County Building and get the quide lines and see if you qualify.  It may not be as hard as you think.
